I'm an intermediate exerciser but did have some trouble at first with some repetitions. Overall it's not that expensive and also includes a 30 day breakdown of which segment to do as part of the '30 day butt lift.'

She also counts and speaks just enough to get you going - she doesn't blab throughout the workout. -- Bonus 10-minute ab workout is extremely challenging (not necessarily for beginners or people with lower back troubles), but seeing Rania's rock-hard abs is inspiration enough for me. I've purchased and tried so many exercise videos, and this is the first that I really enjoy and look forward to doing. It's great to find something that feels effective, but doesn't punish my body as so many workouts do. I think that's the trick to actually working out, i.e., having so much fun that you WANT to do it. Best of all, and this may sound corny, but I feel feminine bellydancing, even though I do it in a gawky, goofy-looking way. All of these positives outweigh the negatives of this DVD for me.

You will sweat and you will feel it, but you'll also have an easier time getting yourself up off the couch to do a second workout. :) One of the best things is that it's relatively low impact. There is some hopping at the end, but it's not extended. Definitely a plus for someone with bad knees and ankles like me. Highly recommended.

Carmen makes it look so easy to be sexy while doing this, but I did not exude the same confidence and found myself laughing at my own attempts to look sexy. It was really fun, though, and she takes the time to carefully explain each step. This makes it easy for the non-dancer types such as myself. After I got the steps down (I had to replay the disc several times.), I would rewind just until the last part which is when you go through the whole routine with the music. This is when I really started to get pumped up. I think this is a great workout program, and once I get the steps down well-enough, I think I may be able to feel more sexy while doing them.

There is an upper body part but it is short and a lot of leg work is included. Not good if you are in a wheelchair and paralyzed like me." "I recently had knee surgery. I am unable to tolerate much load bearing on my left leg until I have my partial knee replacement in May. This is a challenging, quicker pace workout that is fun. The only complaint that I would have is that there is no instructions on the dvd for needed props with video use: use of cane or broom pole, scarf that is longer and fluid. I bought all the available titles for Chair Aerobics" "When I saw this video I said to myself, "Yeah right. This workout is NOT going to be a quality workout." I couldn't have been more WRONG.. This is an excellent workout for anyone...not just for people who cannot stand or for people who may be disabled in some way (like myself). I really love this DVD because it offers a great workout and it works all of your muscle groups. The only thing I wish it had more of is leg exercises. That is why I only gave it four stars. I had no idea that you can do this from a chair. The instructor is super sweet and encouraging. Some people may find the music to be a little loud and repetitive, but I had no problem with it. Also, some movements are a bit complex. I had done bellydance before I got sick and I understand how to do certain movements. The instructor doesn't really explain how to perform certain moves, but you sort of understand after some practice. :) Don't be discouraged. It is still a great workout even if you don't do the moves exactly right. Most of us are not professional bellydancers. You need a scarf and a cane or some kind of long stick to do some exercises on this DVD. Although sometimes, I actually do it without the props and it works out just fine. I honestly did not have high expectations for this video, but like I said earlier, I was really wrong. This DVD is great for everyone, but especially for those who are limited in some way. It's really important to be active and to keep your body moving no matter who you are but some people find it more difficult. That doesn't mean that we can't try to be as healthy as we can. I would recommend this video to anyone."

I think this is one of the programs that helped me slim down a bit. In July 2007, I wore size 14 jeans and now I can fit in a size 8. The combination of cardio to burn fat and the dance moves in this program would really trim down the waistline. I sweat a lot after I'm done with the full workout and just a light sweat from the 20 min.routine. This program mixed with Turbo Jam, Rebounding, Speed Intervals, different kinds of Strength Training routines, yoga-pilates, etc. and sensible eating gave me results over time. In the 40 min. routine, I still can't do the "moving figure 8". But that doesn't stop me from having this as part of my rotation. I would just do that move in place. Any move that I can't exactly copy, I just keep 'circling' my hips. I also exaggerate the moves as they recommend. Yeah, I look silly but that's the beauty of working out at home, no one sees me. When I do either the 20 min. or 40 min. routine, I don't feel the need to add any ab workout anymore since it's already there unlike my other cardio routines (except for Turbo Jam). To mix things up, this will be a good addition to your exercise DVD collection.

It's a combination of classic aerobics and fun latin moves. You learn a basic aerobic move, and then she adds the latin flare to it. I personally have only done this twice but never felt sore or tired as a result of it. I'd use this on a day where I can't be bothered doing much else but still want to do something. It's certainly going to burn off some calories, but advanced exercisers won't be overly impressed with this. Jennifer is motivating and personable like usual, but I hope her next workout will be a little harder and more challenging." "I've owned a handful of Latin dance fitness DVDs, and this is a nice break from those. The footwork is less complex, it incorporates more arm and upper body moves than most Latin dance DVDs, and it's all low-impact (so it may not be intense enough for intermediate exercisers). There aren't as much traditional Latin dance moves in this as in others - there are more aerobic dance moves. That said, the aerobic components are refreshingly original, without the usual tired, boring morass of chasses, grapevines, and knee lifts. (There's even a quick little move where you pretend to play conga drums.) You won't need any equipment, but you'll need enough front and back floor space to be able to walk about 4 big (or 8 small steps), and enough space on the sides to take 2 big steps in each direction. The warm-up and cooldown blend smoothly into the workout itself, so on the downside, there's no menu other than "Play" or "Resume." And if you're looking to learn traditional Latin dance steps you can take to your cousin's wedding, you'll be disappointed. Overall, it's sexy, playful and fun, and easy to follow with plenty of cuing.

"I'm a daily exerciser so it is very important for me to A)have workout variety so my muscles don't get used to the same old routine, and B)Must be something I find enjoyable and satisfying. I do many types of workouts, pilates, yoga, step, kickboxing, but dance has a special place in my heart because I grew up taking lessons and I love anything that is dance oriented. This routine is fun, no doubt. The routine has body rolls, chest pops and lots of fun moves that keep your heart rate up. I did both the old school and the sexy sculpt together to make one longer work out and that was just right for me. I felt Sarita Lou did a good job cuing the moves but this is not all about a perfect way to do a move, you take the base move and you add in your own flavor, so it is not important that you do it "exactly" like she does it, just learn the move and then add your own style to it...that is what dance is all about. The less uptight you are the better. Just go with your body and have a good time. The workout is comprised of a 7 minute warmup, two workouts of approx. 20 minutes and a 5 minute cooldown. I would say this is an intermediate workout. A beginner to dance may need a few times to catch the steps, but someone that works out with dance videos or has a background in dance would catch the moves fairly quickly. I did break a sweat doing the workout and felt much like I would after I had been just out on the dance floor having a good time. I also liked the instructor's style-she is not chirpy, overly enthusiastic, etc. She looks like she is just having a good time. Her form is good and the stretches at the end felt great. I like this addition to my dance videos and would definitely seek out more videos where she is featured as the instructor. Let yourself go a little and dance in the livingroom....it's good for you and it is a whole lot of fun." It lasts a little over 30 minutes (including warm up and cool down), I think, and is very low impact and the dancing is slow paced. I hardly sweat at all and suspect I burn less than 100 calories using it. But one nice thing about this DVD is that Madonna and her background dancers are friendly and interact with each other during the workout. You get the sense that they all knew each other before creating the DVD. The dance moves are not at all difficult to learn, and a beginner could probably pick them up quickly - especially since the music is rather slow. The set and production are good. I use this DVD on days when I don't feel like exerting myself much, or to loosen up after a strength training workout. For something slightly more intense, try Madonna's African Beat, Latin Heat DVD.

"I just finished this work out and had to post a review. It was so much fun. I have been looking for a cardio workout that didn't have weights and that wasn't from Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels, or another trainer who "yells" and tells me to "tough it out". I almost wanted to start it over again when it was finished. The moves are fairly easy to master and the trainer is very likeable. Is it the hardest workout I've ever done? No. But it was exactly what I was looking for and it will definitely be added into my regular workout DVD rotation. As a frame of reference, I'd say my fitness level is now right now is a bit higher than that of a beginner, but I'm not quite comfortably intermediate. So if you are more advanced, you might not get much out of this workout, but if you are in my position - starting to get back into shape and looking for something to break up the monotony of the "tough trainers" - I'd highly recommend this DVD.

This workout makes you sweat. There are a lot of moves to each dance but it's easy to get the hang of with repetition. The step-guide at the beginning is beneficial but I only needed it once since Amy has you repeat the moves several times (before putting all the moves together) for each dance exercise. Some reviews complained about the music, this wasn't an issue for me. If you want REAL country music you can always use your stereo in the background. This workout is really worth trying.

While I think that both of those workouts are superior to this one, I still have to concede that this is a highly effective cardio sculpting workout. The DVD is broken down into six sections: Warm Up, To the Club, Groovin', Kick it Out, Cool Down, and Step Guide. Here is my breakdown of each part of the DVD. Warm Up - Jennifer does some easy light cardio dance moves to start the blood moving in your body. She then moves into hip roles and chest isolations to warm up those respective parts of your body. This section is short and to-the-point, getting you ready for the workout to come. To the Club - This is by far the fast routine, and it's focused on teaching you fun, cardio dance moves that you can take to the club. There aren't too many different moves to learn (about five), but they are all slightly complex authentic dance moves. There are some sliding moves with your feet, some stomping steps, a few hip rocks and rolls, and some hops included in this routine. Groovin' - In this routine, Jennifer slows down the tempo but tells you to emphasize your movements and really make them big. There are definitely a larger variety in moves in "Groovin'", but none of them are extremely difficult. It's a more hard-hitting routine that will probably make you a little bit sore in the morning.

"Sizzling Salsa is one of the latest offerings from the Dance Off the Inches series, which has produced fun, generally easy-to-follow dance workouts. This one is led by Stella Sandoval, and as in the other DVDs, she teaches a class of four in what almost looks to be someone's living room. This time, two of the background exercisers are other instructors, Michelle Dozios and Marie Forleo. This DVD has a particularly nice feature called the Step Guide. This is a 17-minute segment in which Stella breaks down some of the dance steps from the workout, first showing the move, then performing it slowly, and finally, bringing it up to tempo. Even though I've done some Latin dance workouts before, I found it very helpful to review this section before attempting the main program. However, keep in mind that Stella does not teach every step from the workout here and also that some of the steps are performed a bit differently once they appear in the workout. The workout itself consists of a 5 minute warm-up, 3 dance routines (Spicy Salsa, Latin Lime Twist, and Mucho Mambo Combo), and a 2.5 minute cool-down. Each dance routine is approximately 9 minutes long. Stella teaches in an add-on style, showing you a couple of moves at time, having you practice these, and then gradually adding more moves to the mix until you have worked your way up to the full routine. One you have learned all of the moves in the routine, Stella "takes you to the dance floor" (her way of saying that you complete the entire dance) four times total. Each of the three dance segments is stand-alone (ie, the Mucho Mambo Combo doesn't repeat any of the moves from Spicy Salsa), and the DVD is nicely chaptered so that you could mix-and-match if you chose to do so."

It's fun also to be transported to Hawaii for a few minutes in the great photography, and also in the contemporary Hawaiian music. I found this a very fresh approach and a worthwhile purchase. You've got to hand it to Kathy Smith--the indefatigable diva of fitness has a knack for staying on top of the cultural curve. Her peppy Kickboxing Workout came out right on the kicking heels of The Tae-Bo Workout and added much-needed polish to that popular workout's moves. Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout, released in the fall of 1999, capitalizes on America's love affair with Ricky Martin and Latin music in general. The workout has great music (unlike a few of Smith's previous videos), provided by a live band at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, and a lot of infectious energy from Smith and her core group of fellow dancers. Whether this works as a workout for you, though, will depend on how quickly you can absorb dance steps. In fact, it's unlikely to get your heart rate up to decent workout levels, unless you're a fairly accomplished dancer used to throwing yourself into the steps. The video includes a very brief warm-up, and then segments that essentially teach steps like the cha-cha, the samba, and the merengue, followed by a few minutes of cool-down. Because the steps aren't strenuous per se, there aren't two workout levels provided, as in most of Smith's videos. Included is a bonus segment for you and a partner, to teach you how to take the steps onto the dance floor of your favorite salsa club. The lively rhythms of latin dance combine great calorie burning and toning benefits. "To begin with, in order to be happy with your workout video purchase it is good to know what it is and what it is not. This is a 40 minute LOW IMPACT work-out that is broken into two 20 minute segments to be done together or on their own. What you will be doing is essentially dancing to infectious latin music and having 40 minutes of fun. If you are like me, good music makes working out easy. Have you ever run on the treadmill listening to the radio and suddenly started working out faster and better when your favorite song came on? Well, this work out is a great choice if you love latin music and you love dancing. I bought it in order to have a fun alternative cardio routine and I'm very happy with it. I cannot say this is the most intense cardio workout on the planet - but it does not have to be. Even for advanced exercisers, there are days when you just cant force yourself to perform to super-human limits and this is a great work-out for that day. For beginners, this is a FUN work-out and you will work up a pretty good sweat just following the moves. To get an idea of how intense the workout is, just imagine dancing non-stop in a club for 40 minutes. The steps are easy to follow for beginners - although if you find it hard to follow dance moves or hate dancing all together please don't bother picking this video up and then critisizing it. Similarly, if you are an advanced salsa dancer and impress the crowds with your dance moves at clubs, this work-out will be boring for you - unless of course you do your own thing to the music. This work-out is ideal for beginners who need something simple to get them started, for kids, for people of all fitness levels who just want to have fun dancing. The setting is in a club with a live band and no-one is even wearing tradional work-out clothes. Kathy is fun and motivational as usual and having lots of fun. I did not think her cueing was bad and she did not struggle with the moves in my opinion. She was not trying to teach an advanced latin dance class - she was just leading an exercise class with simple dance moves for fun and she did that VERY well. A member of the cast was a more advanced dancer and often demonstrated more advanced moves to the dance. But overall, no-one should buy this video in hopes of learning to become a professional dancer - take it for what is is - a simple cardio work-out with basic moves to latin rhythms and you should be very happy.

There are so many things that I like about this workout. I love the music, all the songs chosen are geared towards positive self-esteem and self-acceptance. Richard Simmons is friendly and encouraging, not overly-enthusiastic as I would have expected. I liked that people of all sizes were working out, and everyone had wonderful energy. There are a lot of toning moves mixed in with the aerobics, which I wasn't expecting at all, such as plies for your legs and fly aways (I think that's what they're called) for your arms. Granted this workout isn't designed to give you a beach body, but it will give you basic muscle tone and improve your aerobic stamina. All the moves are low-impact, but can easily be adjusted to higher impact for those who are in better shape. This workout is a lot of fun and completely enjoyable." In each of the two rehearsal sections, Jamie breaks down the choreography and makes it very esay to follow. If you can't get a move, though, a great feature of the DVD is that in several places you can click on a sub-menu and go to the bonus section where Jamie breaks down the move even more slowly. One of the things that makes this workout so unique is that the workout is done on a stage with a DJ playing music. During the dress rehearsal and performance sections, the dancers and Jamie also change into "costumes" and even do the routine in front of a live audience. It really feels like you're a rock star while doing these sections of the workout. The DVD also has a bonus strength section and a section where Jamie breaks down the moves in more detail. The first time I did this workout, I couldn't quite keep up with the nuances of the moves, but I can see progress and I can also see that I won't be bored with this DVD in the future. The last thing I wanted to say is that I was pleasantly surprised about how this workout got my heart rate up. It's true that there are much harder cardio dance workouts out there, but I was definitely breaking a sweat -- and having fun while doing it. Overall, it's a fun, very unique workout." "Finally a Jamie King dance workout I don't have to try and follow along on the Nike website. I liked this workout a lot, and I usually find most cardio hip-hop DVDs lame. It's "organised" like a dance class, with phrases learned at half-time then tempo, a dress rehearsal where you put it all together and then a performance where you run the whole thing through a few times. The choreography is cool, and once you know it you can put a lot more energy into it and have a fun workout. Sometimes they counted off the beat, but it's easy to ignore that if you can count. This isn't high-intensity like a Les Mills dance class, but for a day where you want a steady-state burn, this is a fun workout to try. I hope there'll be more of these down the line, maybe getting progressively harder.

I am familiar with dance, and I have done salsa dvd's in the past but am by no means an expert, but I do enjoy the quick pace and the fun of doing dance for a work-out and am used to turns and quick footwork. I need little instruction and don't like to slow down for the basics. I prefer to have the instructional part separate from the dvd or just start out at the fast pace and let me just follow along. Giselle's warm-up is quick-paced and you work through the warm-up pretty quickly. I would consider this to be an intermediate work-out and if you feel you are less coordinated or have two left feet I would recommend starting with a more beginner work-out until you feel comfortable. If you are very advanced this may be a little on the ho-hum side for you. For me I enjoyed it. I liked the movements, and I did break a sweat. I wore my pedometer while I worked out and in the 40 minute work-out I had 4500 steps logged, so you will definitely be moving and getting your heart rate up in a fun way. Each segment is only about 5 minutes long. You do a quick (and I do mean quick-paced) warm-up, followed by basic salsa, mambo, merengue, advanced salsa, samba, afro-cuban and a cool-down. I might have liked fewer types of dance but with more of a difficulty progression, but it was fun to get a taste of the different types of dances, even if they were short segments."

Precision Toning by Tracy Anderson focuses on empowering the smaller accessory muscles as they strengthen and support the large muscle throughout the body. "I have Tracy's Mat workout and I have tried her Metamorphosis Abcentric. I think this is a great step after her Mat workout. It's harder but it still has a familiar elements of both. It has 4, 15 minute sections focusing on Arms, Legs, Glute and Abs. In the Arms she warms you up with no weights and moves you into weights. She uses 3lbs and briefly 5lbs. This was challenging and fatigued my arms. The 5's topped it off. In the Legs, she uses the chair for standing and floor work. This was challenging and really fatigued my legs. The Glute section was on the floor with the option to use ankle weights. She uses 1.5 lb each and doesn't recommend using anything heavier. I tried 2.5 and humbly and quickly took them off. In the last section, Abs, is done on the floor. I like the option to do just one section or play all. Even though they are 15 minutes each they deliver a good burn and fatigues the muscles. They are challenging. I was sore the next day which is hard to find sometimes. I enjoyed it.

Both begin with a stepping warm up which starts out a little fast. This is like joining an aerobics class, how well you can keep up depends on your experience following choreography. Latin Grooves-Disc 1 contains these routines: Warm-up Fiesta, Tribal, Flamenco, Espiritu, Carnival, Eclectic Sounds, Cool Down. Each Routine is about 5 minutes. Reggaeton-Disc 2 begins with a warm-up then Cross and Punch, Samba and Mambo, Kick and Slide, Triple Step and Cross, Gallop and Routine, Cool Down. Some of the footage seems a little raw but it doesn't interrupt the flow. The music is a light synthesized blend that changes only slightly for each style and routine. The instructor is upbeat and energetic and talks a lot, all the time. The choreography is the stuff of basic dance classes and probably won't be difficult for anyone with good dance coordination.

Negative - The instructor didn't go over the moves enough times for me to fully grasp and feel comfortable with the move. She'd start out very slow, which was good, but then when she'd dance the the move at full speed, it was faster than expected and I was thrown off. I never felt comfortable with the dance at full speed at all. Plus, you need a lot of room to move, which was something I don't have in my living room, so that was a downside. Positive - I enjoyed the energy of the choreography and of the instructor. Although I was having a hard time keeping up with the choreography, she made me want to keep at it. I also liked the fact that all the dancers in the video looked like 'real' people and weren't unattainable body types. It made me feel like anyone could perform this choreography and you don't have to look like a model to have fun and perform. Another upside was that the choreography was addicting and I'd find myself practising on my own to try and perfect it for the next time I do this DVD. The video might not be for absolute beginners, but for the more advanced, I'd say keep at it and you have a great, heart pounding workout on your hands.
